An historic Mackay region pub could soon become prime accommodation for those working at the mines with plans to add accommodation.
Cameron 78 Enterprises Pty Ltd has submitted a proposal to Mackay Regional Council to build eight self-contained bedrooms and a common laundry at the Eton Hotel on the corner of Telegraph and Prospects St, Eton.

If approved, the rooms would be serviced by eight dedicated carparking spaces along Prospect St.
It follows a recent expansion of the 154-year-old pub's beer garden which feature timber posts and hand-carved seats.
Planning documents stated the hotel, situated on a 7578sq m block, was once home to a picture theatre, dance hall, teahouse refreshment room and a blacksmith engineering workshop.

The pub was built in 1866 by the ancestors of former publicans Lance and Kathleen Cameron.
