Final touches to be added to colourful Mackay laneway

The revitalisation includes new pavement and electrical provisions to cater for future community events

The final touches will soon be made to a colourful Mackay project years in the making.

Fifth Lane, which runs between Wood and Gregory streets, is getting new pavement, water mains upgrades and electrical provisions to cater for future community events.

The laneway already features bright and creative murals including a giant butterfly, lorikeet, platypus, turtle and funky street scenes.

The lane will close to all traffic until the end of May with controls in place.

Mackay Regional Council would like to assure the public the artwork would be safeguarded while work was completed.

The project first began in late 2018 and was unveiled to the public the following year.
