Two crocodile sightings including one in an irrigation pond in suburban Mackay are under investigation.
A resident reported what they estimated to be a 2m crocodile in an irrigation pond between Bucasia and Rural View on May 14.
The lagoon was reported to be off Canter Lane next to Mackay Bucasia Rd.
The Department of Environment and Science lists the report as under investigation but initial reviews did not find a crocodile.
It is one of two reported sightings in the Mackay region in the same month after a small saltwater crocodile was found in a golf course dam.
The DES reported the caretaker spotted the small crocodile in the Halliday Bay golf course waterway but it “was moved on by two older crocs” from the nearby Seaforth Creek.
It remains listed as an active investigation.
The club posted a photo in June 2019 of a relatively small crocodile in the fairway dam and with minimal likes and shares on the Facebook page, it appeared the sighting was just par for the course.
And a person reported what they believed to be a crocodile on the shore near Coral Sea Resort at Airlie Beach.
It was not confirmed as a crocodile and remains under investigation.
It follows the dramatic escapes of two families whose boats capsized in the crocodile-riddled Proserpine River earlier this year.
Bri Woods and her partner Bayden Brackley’s family fled the river on January 22 this year when a wave tipped their boat.
In a separate incident, Albert Withers took his 25-year-old son Brayden and mate Connor Redshaw out on his 5x5 metre reef boat just after lunch on June 28.
Before they had even had a chance to drop a line in, the three men were fighting for their lives in the middle of an infamous saltwater crocodile habitat.
