Andergrove angler Damien McGeachin was hoping for some big fish when he set off boating this morning, instead he was faced with a monster five metre crocodile.
Mr McGeachin was fishing at a bend in Constant Creek when he and his fishing partner Mal Pattinson spotted some rather large slide marks in the rocks.
“I said to Mal, there’s a big croc around here somewhere,” Mr McGeachin said.
The pair rounded a corner and sure enough, the five metre crocodile was laying on the banks basking in the morning light.
“We were in a 4.3 metre tinny and it was bigger than that,” Mr McGeachin said.
“It didn’t even worry we were there, when it slid off we were only five metres from it.”
As a keen fisherman, Mr McGreachin said he often spotted crocs along the creek but usually only ranging between one and two metres.
“About once a year you see a big one, this is the biggest one I’ve seen in a while,” he said.

The crocodile sighting is just the latest in a series of sightings, often provoking contentious debate among Mackay locals as reported by the Daily Mercury.
But as an avid fisherman, Mr McGeachin said he was not concerned by the giant dinosaur.
“I don't want to see them taken away,” he said.
“That’s their territory, and I like to see them in the river because it means there’s lots of fish and it’s nice and healthy.”
Unfortunately Mr McGeachin didn’t come home from his exciting expedition with many big catches.
“We only caught little fish, I think the big fella scared them away,” he said.
