“Twenty years, these days, is just about a lifetime.”
Mackay Reef Fish Supplies owner David Caracciolo said these words paying tribute to Madelina Agius, who joined the business in 2004.
She may be the accountant and overall chief executive officer, but Mr Caracciolo said in that time Ms Agius had established herself as someone who “wears many hats, for whatever has to be done”.
“Maddy started 20 years ago working for the family,” he said.
“She’s a receptionist, she packs oysters for retail, she’s liaising with fishermen.
“She’s seen many a challenge in the fishing industry, she’s been there through most of the changes and she’s had to adapt.”
Graham Caracciolo ran Mackay Reef Fish Supplies alongside brothers David and Brian until divesting in 2015, yet Ms Agius had been a “lynchpin” for the business.
“Maddy was a real people person,” he said.
“Maddy worked diligently and efficiently and very effectively and she was integral in keeping all the company morale together.
He said she drove company workshops and seminars, and was the go-between for a lot of people.
“Like the pacifier I suppose,” he said.
“She certainly was a lynchpin in the business, and is.”
Both brothers said they and the entire team wished her a happy work anniversary.
