Mackay Mayor’s Charity for DV and HeartKids had locals bedazzled

Acrobats on the ceiling, feathers on the tables and bling all round.

Acrobats hung from hoops and forests of feathers and beads covered the tables at the Mayor's Charity Ball on Saturday.

The theme was Moulin Rouge and Mackay locals were out to impress.

 

It was a night of bedazzlement with a cause, the proceeds of the ball being split between the Domestic Violence Resource Centre and HeartKids.

Mackay Mayor Greg Williamson was thrilled to see the event back up and running after it was postponed because of COVID last year.

"I think we have been waiting a very long time for this," Cr Williamson said.

"It's for a really excellent cause, and everyone can look great doing it.

"It's just absolutely fabulous."

The night brought the community together, with old and new faces all in attendance including event sponsor Fergus Building's Jann Fergus who flew in from Brisbane.

"I lived in Mackay for 40 years but I live in Brisbane now, we've done the ball every year," Mrs Fergus said.

"I come up to support the community and of course we all have a good time.

"At the end of the day though it's a charity ball and that's what it's all about, and it's really nice to get dressed up to do it."

 

MECC acting manager Jemma Carey was pleased to see the Plenary Hall of the MECC abuzz again with activity.

"It's very exciting to see people back and celebrating this style of event," Ms Carey Said.

"Just getting dressed up and coming together."
