A Mackay landmark venue could be getting an upgrade that will include a new sports bar, care lounge, mini golf course and tenpin bowling area.
An application has been lodged for Northern Beaches Bowls Club outlining what the renovations will bring to the community and was unanimously voted in at a Mackay Regional Council meeting on December 13.
The redevelopment proposal promises jobs and growth as early as January.
The huge undertaking will include building a new gaming room, a sports bar, cafe lounge, a mini golf course and ten pin bowling area, retrofitting of their restaurant and kitchen.
It will also include an additional 51 parking spaces.
The Northern Beaches Bowls Club and their partners Jewell Planning Consultants, have also applied for a concession from council infrastructure charges.
These charges add up to $71,349.30 and usually go to funding community infrastructure and spaces such as parks, roads or other community facilities.
Principal Economic Development Officer Nadine Connolly who performed the assessment on the impacts of the redevelopment determined that 75 per cent of the concession be provided on the condition that the “ … development be completed and in use by December 13, 2025”, advising that the developers be charged $17,837 for the benefit of the community.
As well as providing additional amenities to the area the proposed renovations and developments will directly employ about 200 workers during construction, as well as another 20 full time jobs when the club is operational.
Also shown in the assessment is an economic impact of more than $30 million for the community.
This will present itself in the form of construction costs, logistics and local consumption from the developers and their workforce.
The renovation has been designed with the Mackay council’s stated long term development goals of growth and community and if approved will provide a leisure and recreation venue for all of Mackay to benefit from.
Ms Connolly recommended the council approve the redevelopment.
