MAJOR upgrades planned for Walkerston’s Alsatia Park have been revealed with the release of a detailed concept plan.
Feedback gathered during the community consultation period in February/March shaped the design of the upgrades.
Mayor Greg Williamson said the consultation revealed support for the children’s playground to be moved away from the skatepark and for the playground to be larger and more visible.
“The children’s playground will be relocated to the opposite side of the park, and it will be increased in size to cater for a wider age range,” Mr Williamson said.
“Shade was also a major focus of community feedback, so the area will be fitted with new shelters offering covered seating for parents and shading to the small children’s play equipment.
“The half basketball court and skatepark will also get a facelift and football posts will be installed in the park’s open space.”
Work planned includes a hang-out space for older kids with a table tennis table, extension and restoration of the skatepark’s half-pipe, new and more accessible footpaths, additional seating, bins and fencing, a drinking bubbler and dog bowl, and additional shade trees.
Construction is expected to be completed this financial year.
