Car crashes into a train at Calen on the Bruce Highway

A male driver has suffered a head injury after a passenger train collided with his car on the Bruce Highway north of Mackay.

Emergency services including police officers and paramedics were called to the train-car smash up on Pratt’s Road at Calen, about a 45 minutes’ drive north of Mackay, shortly before 9am.

The male driver of the car is 55 years old.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said he was in a stable condition and the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Paramedics have taken the man to Mackay Base Hospital for further treatment.

It is also understood multiple people at the scene are in the hands of the QAS for assessment.

A rail line runs through the end of Pratts Road, which connects to the Bruce Highway.

A Queensland Traffic alert states lanes have been reduced in both directions.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency spokesman said two fire crews had been dispatched and the vehicle was off the rail line.
