About 55,000 kilograms of strawberries will have walked off Margaret Ballantyne’s farm when the season ends in a week.
Berry lovers have until next Saturday or Sunday to get their farm fresh punnets into the fridge – if they’re not devoured in the car on the way home, that is.
The strawberry-picking season has been running since June but blueberries can be picked this weekend too.
Ballantyne’s Strawberries will also be open all week except Wednesday so families can visit during the first week of school holidays from 8am to 4pm.
The farm is expecting to close the gates either next Saturday or Sunday, depending on how much produce is picked.
Each of the 55,000 strawberry plants on the farm produces a kilogram or more of strawberries which are picked for markets, highway stalls or by visitors.
Mrs Ballantyne said she had seen a lot of young people as well as families this season.
“It’s all ages that are coming out to enjoy the farm. No phone service and nice scenery,” she said.
“We enjoy seeing the smiles on people’s faces and receiving appreciation for what we do. We get a lot of nice comments.”
