Avenue Q plays Mackay: Infamous puppet show coming to The Con

It is funny, witty, offers social commentary and definitely not suited for a young audience.
But Avenue Q is a guaranteed smashing night of theatre with laughs and well-orchestrated puppetry that will make even the best of us blush.
Mackay Musical Comedy Players will follow their smash hit Mamma Mia with Avenue Q – The Musical, premiering at The Con on September 16.
Avenue Q, set in New York City, follows the story of college graduate Princeton, finding his way in the world, meeting friends, finding and losing love and finding it again along the way. Human characters sing, dance and interact with puppets, in a light-hearted, fantasy environment.
Despite featuring puppets Avenue Q is rated MA15+ with adult topics of racism, internet pornography, sexual references and a fear of commitment.

Avenue Q looks at racism, homosexuality, self-pity and unemployment, taking pleasure in other people’s misery (schadenfreude) and the internet (porn) – good luck shaking the latter song from your mind.
It has been satirising the anxieties of entering adulthood since 2003 and it still hits the mark for people of all ages 15 years later.
The lead characters Princeton and Kate Monster are played by Dylan Waterson and Molly Gibbins, last seen together on stage as William Barfee and Olive Ostrovsky in the hilarious 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee last year at the MECC.
A love triangle ensues when Lucy, played by Leah Harford, tries to come between Princeton and Kate.
MMCP has been fortunate to secure puppets from Avenue Q Hire Australia, used for many Avenue Q productions.
Publicity Officer Jay Shipston said it had been a new challenge for the actors to synchronise their actions with their puppets.
If you’re looking for a night out with great singing and you aren’t easily offended, then Avenue Q is for you.
