After almost three decades of serving pies and pastries out near the mines, a rural bakehouse is closing its doors for good.

The Collinsville Bakehouse has been in operation for 27 years under the stewardship of the Dawson family.

However, just weeks away from Christmas, the family has announced the bakery will be closing on December 13.

“We can’t thank the community enough for your continuous support,” the Dawsons wrote on Facebook.

The business was renovated in 2018 and in August 2023, Leanne and Vince Dawson announced the Collinsville Bakehouse was for sale.

“This is your chance to own the only bakery in Collinsville servicing the community as well as an established wholesale arm supplying surrounding businesses and mining camps,” they wrote at the time.

The business was still being advertised for sale by the Dawsons in 2024 with the price set at $190,000 in April.

The business was renovated six years ago and listed for sale in 2023.

Collinsville Bakehouse was even nominated for a 2024 Whitsunday Business Award in September.

Daughter of Tony and Michelle Dawson and niece of Leanne and Vince Dawson, Tahlia Dawson sad it was sad to see her family close the bakehouse.

“This was my first job in grade 7,” she said.

“The amazing name this shop made with the beautiful staff, and beautiful customers along the way that have made the business last so long.”

Ms Dawson said it was now time for her parents and aunt and uncle to start a new era and “bloody well rest”.

“I’m so going to miss going in and seeing all the beautiful hard working comedians,” she said.

“I will be down for my order mum and dad, and of course to help one last time.”

Collinsville Bakehouse will not be accepting orders in December and is imposing limitations on November orders in the lead up to the closure.

“We would also like to acknowledge and thank all of our past and present staff for their hard work and commitment,” the Dawsons wrote.

“It would not have been possible without you.”
