Clive Palmer calls on Premier Newman to resign

THE enigmatic leader of Australia’s newest political party has an opinion on everything – including who is going to win the next election.

THE enigmatic leader of Australia's newest political party has an opinion on everything - including who is going to win the next election.

Clive Palmer, of course.

Mr Palmer also said Federal Coalition leader Tony Abbott should finally open his mouth, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd had a handicap thanks to News Ltd's attack on him and Queensland Premier Campbell Newman should resign.

Speaking from his headquarters in Brisbane, Mr Palmer said he was confident he would become the next prime minister because the Palmer United Party would win government.

The mining magnate, who is listed among the country's richest people, said he would resign as chair of his many companies, if elected, but would not commit to relinquishing them.

After opening up his press conference to questions, he responded to one about outed sexting MP Peter Dowling, who on Tuesday stood down as chair of the state's ethics committee.

Mr Palmer said Mr Newman got rid of MP Alex Douglas, who defected from the LNP and was now in Palmer's party, from the ethics committee and installed Mr Dowling.

"To put someone on there that acts so blatantly against these sorts of ethics and leaves himself open to influence from outside sources shows a great lack of judgment," Mr Palmer said.

"The premier should resign as well as Mr Dowling."

Mr Palmer said he looked forward to the muzzle coming off Mr Abbott so he could hear what was going on in his mind.

"Tony Abbott is yet to be seen. We see photos of him but they won't let him speak," he said.
