A MOTHER of four found her self explaining how she came to be a passenger in a stolen car driven by a family member.

Patricia Frances Kris "had a suspicion" the car had been pinched but that did not stop her from climbing in the back seat for a lift.

"Suspicion? You knew," Magistrate Damien Dwyer said.

Kris had been walking back after dropping her kids at school when the stolen car pulled up and she got in.

Mackay Magistrates Court heard she had even asked if her relative had stolen the car because he allegedly "had a history of stealing cars".

The owner of the stolen car spotted the vehicle at the corner of Celeber Dr and Pittman St, Andergrove.

Prosecutor David Epstein said the owner forced the vehicle to stop and took the keys from the ignition.

At this point Kris climbed into the front, jumped out the car and run off but was arrested by police soon after on Celeber Dr.

She pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

"She won't ever be doing this again," duty solicitor Geoff Govey, of Taylors Solicitors, said.

Kris was fined $800 and a conviction was not recorded.
