WESTS Leagues Club Mackay announced interest in pursuing further sporting ventures after developing their new undercover bowls green.

Cricket, netball, aussie rules and an expanded gym facility were some of the potential areas which the club's general manager, Kingsley Theiber expressed interest in while speaking on the club's future to the Daily Mercury.

The undercover bowls green is well under way and running ahead of schedule, said to beat their predicted mid 2019 finish for December this year.

The frame work for the undercover bowls area has been completed and the roof was applied in the last few days. Construction work on the floor starts within the next 1-2 weeks.

"With the lack of sporting facilities out in the Pioneer Valley, Western Suburbs Rugby League Football Club has taken it on their proviso to start providing those facilities for the community members out here” Theiber said.

"Obviously to provide these facilities will create inclusiveness in the community, provide a lot of opportunities for people to try the game of bowls, keep people fit and active and also provide some opportunities for local schools to utilise the facilities as part of their sport subjects.”

"Even though we are only 15 minutes out from the city gates there is a lack of facilities out here for the local community. So with the building and construction of sports facilities that we're providing out here it will create a lot more inclusiveness and hopefully increase participation levels in all different sports.”

With all these plans in development Western Suburbs will continue to proudly advertise themselves as a rugby league club as an ode to the clubs history.
