Strawberry farm to shut for good after today

THE owners of Ballantyne's Strawberry Farm have said on social media the closure of their business is near, stating "it's coming to an end”.

UPDATE: Ballantyne's Strawberry Farm's last day of trading is expected to be today.

A post on social media said today will be their very last day.

MONDAY: The owners of Ballantyne's Strawberry Farm have said on social media the closure of their business is near, stating "it's coming to an end".

They said the farm will be closed today, re-open tomorrow and could be open on Wednesday.

It's not the first time the owners have threatened to close, but Margaret Ballantyne, who runs the farm alongside her husband Alan, said their business, Ballantyne's Strawberries, had "been closed more than (it had been) open" and their last trading day would be in this month they told the Daily Mercury in August.

"We haven't made any money because of three major rain events (this year)... they killed it for us," she said.

"We can't keep running at a loss."

Rain during "peak times" such as the June and July school holidays have hampered profits.

"We've been more closed than open," Mrs Ballantyne said.

A closure date is not known yet.
