Sorbellos restaurant staff all smiles at best poll verdict

MACKAY'S very own slice of Italy has been voted one of the best restaurants in town.

Sorbellos Italian Restaurant came in second in the Daily Mercury's Facebook page poll when we asked our fans to nominate their favourite Mackay restaurant or cafe.

The restaurant is owned by brothers Alex and Con Sorbello who opened the business in 1996 at its Victoria St location.

Robyn Sorbello, Con's wife, said they were thrilled to be on the 'top 10' list.

"We feel very lucky," she said.

"We're very appreciative people took the time to vote and that they thought of us."

Some of customers' favourite dishes included carbonara, bolognaise and lasagne, she said.

"You just can't take them off an Italian restaurant menu," Mrs Sorbello said.

"One of our newest dishes, the grilled seafood misto, has really become a popular dish.

"The seafood misto is probably my favourite too."

She said the business would celebrate its 20th birthday in November next year.

"We try to change our menu around now and then to give the customers a little bit of variety but some of the favourite dishes we don't like to change too much," Mrs Sorbello said.

"We've brought in our jazz lunches and wine dinners over the years and we've found them to be really successful."

Customer service was also a part of why the business is so successful, she said.

"Alex and Con are here all the time, they work the business.

"Customers come in and see their faces and interact with them.

"They do put in that personal presence for the business and we have a really good team."
