The ratings are out for aged care homes across Australia and the Mackay/Whitsundays region boasts five facilities with a four-star rating.
Every residential aged care home has been given a star rating out of five by the government, which helps people easily identify which ones are not up to scratch.
Across Queensland’s 458 rated aged care homes, 23 received either a one-star or two-star rating, which means five per cent of homes in the state are sub-par.
The homes are rated on four areas including compliance, residents’ experience, staffing and quality measures.
A one-star rating means a home needs “significant improvement” while two-stars means a home needs “improvement.”
There are no homes in Mackay and the Whitsundays marked with a one or two-star rating.
A three-star rating denotes an “acceptable” level of care, four stars denotes a “good quality of care” and five stars means “excellent”.

Sarina Aged Care nabbed a four-star rating and manager Sharon Marlow credits the facility’s success to a “team effort”.
“It is certainly a team effort,” she said.
“It takes more than one person to get a facility to meet the stringent safety standards we have imposed on us.
“We make sure our residents are well looked after.
“We just have a really nice atmosphere, great staff, we have a lot of family involvement here being a small facility.
“And we are rural, it is that rural town closeness.”
Mrs Marlow said the 48-bed facility was at full capacity and there was “always” demand for services.
“Ageing population, you are going to have a huge demand,” she said.
East Mackay’s Good Shepherd Lodge received media attention in 2019 for allegedly inadequate care, but this year, the home received a three-star rating.
