Puma Coningsby fuel station to change into Caltex

A popular service station on the Bruce Highway, just north of Mackay, could be in line for a major redevelopment. See the plans for the first time.

A popular Bruce Highway servo could soon get an extensive facelift as fuel giant Chevron rebrands its newly acquired Puma service stations.

Chevron lodged plans to Mackay Regional Council to redevelop its service station at Coningsby in the Farleigh district north of Mackay.

It comes after Chevron Downstream Fuels Australia acquired Puma Energy (Australia) Holdings in 2020 for $425 million, and just months after Ampol opened its new Farleigh service station.

Chevron’s service station, still covered in Puma branding, currently caters for up to 210 vehicles per hour during peak times.

The proposed redevelopment details building more lighting; a new 440sq m service station building with a “truckies” lounge, diner and separate amenities; six new double-sided undercover fuel dispensers; three new heavy vehicle refuelling dispensers; dedicated truck parking and future parking for caravans.

The layout is vastly different to the current set-up with the passenger vehicle bowsers and retail shop no longer facing the highway.

Documents state the refurbishment will better separate the heavy vehicle and light vehicle refuelling and parking areas, enhance the overall presentation of the station, and deliver improved highway access to and from the site.

The updated service station will continue to operate 24/7 but under the Caltex banner instead.
