PAGET renewable energy company Linked Group Services wants to help businesses and families slash their electricity bills through the power of the sun.

The company has developed a car port structure fitted with solar panels.

Its managing director Jason Sharam said it was currently delivering Australia's biggest solar car port at Townsville's Willows Shopping Centre.

It has already manufactured and installed another six commercial solar car ports across Australia.

"All the energy that is being generated from that car park is fed into the shopping centre and consumed by the shopping centre," Mr Sharam said.

"It's gaining a lot of traction and it's helping us to grow our business here in Mackay and also to employ more people.

"We're now also starting to trickle down into small commercial and even domestic solar car ports."

Linked Group has developed its first domestic solar car port prototype, which it hopes to have available for purchase by the end of this month.

"The beauty of it is it's another opportunity to generate more solar on your property if you've run out of roof space," Mr Sharam said.

"It is basically a power station for your house."
