Sarina shoppers will be among the first in Queensland to experience the new Kmart concept store when it opens its doors tomorrow.
The K Hub outlet will officially open to shoppers at 9am after a refurbishment of the former Target store.
The first K Hub stores in Queensland will open on Friday, with outlets in Sarina, Beerwah and Chinchilla the first in the state.
Eight new jobs were created in the transformation from Target to K Hub while 13 of the former Target team members opted for transfers to the new concept outlet.
The K Hub store will carry Kmart’s more popular products across its various lines but will be geared toward the online shopping market.
An official opening ceremony and welcome to country will mark the occasion while a select number of first customers through the doors will receive some take-home treats, a company spokeswoman said.
The major changes follow the decision by parent company Wesfarmers last year to close up to 75 large format Target stores and Target Country stores permanently.
In May last year the company announced up to 92 large format Target stores and Target Country stores could be converted into Kmart branches.
Wesfarmers also revealed $780 million of writedowns on its Kmart Group and industrial and safety branch, and a number of plans designed to “accelerate the growth of Kmart” and “address the unsustainable financial performance of Target”.
Mackay’s Target store at Caneland Central will continue operating with no changes announced, while Bowen’s Target store will be replaced with a K Hub outlet scheduled to open on February 3.
