IN A key change to Harrup Park Country Club's organisational structure, general manager Matt Cielens has been elevated to an all-encompassing role as chief executive officer.

Mr Cielens has been appointed CEO - Harrup Park Country Club, The Great Barrier Reef Arena and Mackay Cricket Association.

Adrian Young will assume the role of general manager and will focus on its daily operations.

Mr Cielens will continue to play a key strategic role in the daily operations of the business to guide its overall direction.

Announcing the appointment, Harrup Park chairman Terry Doolan said the restructure had been made to meet the changing nature of the club's business.

"With the ongoing development of the Great Barrier Reef Arena project, coupled with the increasing profile of the venue on a state and national level, we believe it is important to put in place a structure that reflects our intent to adequately manage the key areas of our business now and into the future,” Mr Doolan said.

"The Great Barrier Reef Arena project will be a minimum $20 million investment into Mackay and Harrup Park that will require thorough project planning and delivery to ensure it meets all financial and social objectives.

"Our board has undertaken to progress the planning objectives immediately to meet all funding criteria and guidelines and to ensure all commercial considerations are made in readiness for expected completion of construction in late 2021.”
