Mackay’s newest gym has opened up in the Northern Beaches and is promising to deliver more than “just a workout”.
Husband and wife duo Jerome and Tegan Iakimo are the faces behind Fitstop Rural View — part of a young Australian-grown franchise aiming to shake-up the fitness industry with more than 30 gyms and climbing across the nation.
“Fitstop is a community,” Mrs Iakimo said at the gym’s grand opening on Saturday.
“So it isn’t just about the workout, it’s about the people that you’re working out with.
“It’s a vibe. It’s about how you feel, the energy that you bring and the energy that you get off other people.
“For us, it‘s about creating Fitstop for life. We want to be part of everybody’s fitness journey and contribute positively to everybody’s life.”

With 12 years of experience in the fitness industry, Mrs Iakimo said she was inspired to open the Fitstop gym when she found herself uninspired in a human resources role after COVID broke out.
“I really missed having my coaching group and the community around me, so when I got the call to see if I was still interested in being a franchisee, it was a pretty easy decision to make,” Mrs Iakimo said.
“I’ve been really lucky to have so many of my community follow me over here to help us build this one.”
She said more than 250 residents signed on as members on the night before opening with a further 100 turning up on the day.
The centre opens from 5am to 7pm Monday to Friday and for workouts at 6am, 7am and 8am on Saturdays and Sundays.
