A Mackay-made solar carport will now power Australia’s National Zoo in Canberra, providing a major boost for local jobs in the renewables manufacturing industry.
Local firm Linked Group has secured a deal to install its signature EcoPort product in the nation’s capital, providing more than 120kW of power at the zoo.
Linked Group managing director Jason Sharam said the deal would give national prominence to this rapidly growing industry in Mackay.
“The renewables manufacturing industry is no longer the future, it’s happening now,” Mr Sharam said.
“And Central Queensland is at the forefront of this jobs bonanza.
“This new deal with the Canberra Zoo is just one of many we have secured with a wide range of businesses, from shopping centres to miners and everything in between.
“Ultimately, our products help our customers reduce their power costs and make their businesses more viable into the future.
“They also have the ability to be easily exported to overseas markets, meaning the capacity for growth is exponential.”
Mr Sharam said his company had been operating for more than 11 years and employed more than 60 local workers.
“And we’re currently looking to employ more skilled staff as we continue to grow,” he said
“We started out in the mining services industry and have slowly transformed our business into the renewables manufacturing sector.
“Our products are made entirely from Australian materials, so we’re supporting Australian jobs throughout the process as well.”
The Ecoport destined for the National Zoo is currently under construction in Mackay and is likely to be installed before the end of the year.
