A Mackay small business owner has emerged stronger than ever after COVID-19 forced the shutdown of Bonnie Hayhoe's beauty salon for seven weeks.
Mrs Hayhoe has owned the Beauty Worx salon in Mount Pleasant for the past 13 years and this year expanded the team to 10 therapists and opened a second location in South Mackay.
For the small business owner, being forced to shut her store during the height of Queensland's lockdown last year was a "scary" time.
"Because we weren't given much notice, it was very daunting not knowing what was going to happen and not being fully prepared for closing down," she said.
But instead of sitting back waiting for things to change, Mrs Hayhoe got to work and devised a plan.
"What I did through our seven-week closure was work on my business," she said.
"We rebuilt our website, created an online store and did lots of training through the closure.
"I wasn't having a leisurely time - I just sat down and looked at the figures within the business and used the time to have a look at what was working at the salon and what wasn't."
Mrs Hayhoe's determination certainly paid off after she opened the second Beauty Worx salon at Scott St, South Mackay.

Bonnie Hayhoe's tips for small business success:
1. Create a business plan - Sit down and take a look at what's working in your business and what's not
2. Focus on the things that are working within your business
3. Don't give up
