Guzman y Gomez has opened a rare opportunity for a new store in Mackay, delighting burrito lovers across the region.
The Mexican fast and fresh food chain is eyeing off Mackay as part of its rapid expansion across the country, with 30 new restaurants planned for the next 12 months.
It will add to the growing foothold in the country’s dining scene with 23 stores opening since the beginning of 2020.
In what the chain calls a “very rare opportunity”, it has opened applications for operators of a GYG drive-through store to open in five new cities including Mackay, Hervey Bay, Port Macquarie, Cairns and Townsville.
The Mackay store has a tentative date of March 2022.
GYG founder and CEO Steven Marks said potential franchisees typically faced a waitlist of two years before a location became available.
“So I’m really proud to make these five restaurants available to young entrepreneurs wanting to make their mark on the world,” he said.
“Seeing our current franchisees build their businesses, growing their teams and watching them succeed is what drives us and these five new GYG locations are exceptional opportunities.
“We want exceptional franchisees in these areas who want to serve the best fast food in some of the best locations in regional Australia so if anyone is interested in owning their own GYG, they should get in touch.”
GYG is renowned for its cheap and fresh Mexican fare, with $3 tacos, $9.90 quesadillas including guacamole, and $2 coffee.
The first GYG store opened in Newtown, NSW, in 2006 and there are now more than 160 outlets in Australia, Singapore, Japan and the US.
