Grosvenor mine worker suffers serious leg injury underground

A woman has suffered a serious leg injury in an underground incident at a Central Queensland mine.

CFMEU miners stand up to give thanks to three Moranbah nurses on the second anniversary of the Grosvenor mine blast.

A woman is in hospital undergoing treatment for a leg injury after an underground mine incident near Moranbah.

Emergency services were called to Grosvenor Mine outside the mining hub about 9.15am with reports the woman suffered a broken leg.

Initial reports indicate the woman’s leg was caught between a vehicle and a pod underground.

Queensland Ambulance paramedics transported the injured worker to Moranbah Hospital.

Paramedics received the call about 9.15am.

It is understood the mine’s emergency response team transported the injured woman to the surface before they were taken to hospital.

An Anglo American spokeswoman said the woman was undergoing treatment at hospital.

“We can confirm that regrettably one of our colleagues at Grosvenor Mine sustained a leg injury in an incident underground this morning, and was immediately transported to Moranbah Hospital where she is currently receiving treatment,” the spokeswoman said.

“A full investigation into the incident will be undertaken.

“We extend our sincere thanks to our first responders, Queensland Ambulance Service and Moranbah Hospital for their support in ensuring our injured colleague gets the best care.”

The Anglo American-owned Grosvenor Mine resumed operations in February this year, almost two years after five mine workers were seriously injured in an underground gas ignition in May 2020.
