A NEW Mackay skate and tattoo shop will open its doors to the public tomorrow.
Red Lotus Company Skate and Tattoo owner Brenton Hawkins said the shop featured a private tattoo-by-appointment only studio at the front and the skate shop at the back.
“At the moment we’ve got heaps of shirts, a heap of hats and socks and shoes – all the more core skateboarding brands that you can’t get at surf shops,” Mr Hawkins said.
The range includes professional skateboarding Vans shoes and brands like Spitfire, Thrasher, Dickies, Welcome, Polar, Antihero, Thunder and Creature.
“It’s a bit underground, it’s a bit more legitimate … there’s a lot of different brands people wouldn’t have seen before unless they’re into skating,” he said.

Mr Hawkins, who has been in the skateboarding industry for 10 years and the tattoo industry for more than four years, has also designed and released his own Red Lotus gear with an Asian-inspired aesthetic inspired by his love of Chinese and Japanese cultures.
But the shop is more than a skate store – it is also a place customers can chill out, Mr Hawkins said.
He has plans to install a television and PlayStation with the newly revamped Tony Hawk game for customers to play.
