The owners of a popular store that services a regional township in the Mackay district are ramping up efforts to find a buyer after a potential sale opportunity fell over.
The Gargett General Store and Takeaway has been on the market since 2016.
However it was in mid 2020 when longtime owners Mark and Denise Kozman, who had run the business since 2008, announced the sale stating it was time for them to “move on” and focus on their family.
Three years later and the couple are still looking for a buyer, with the price tag set at $650,000 or nearest offer.
“We are still for sale,” the owners posted on social media on Sunday, November 19.
“Unfortunately our previous interested park was unable to obtain finance so we are still on the market and open to any reasonable offers.”
The business, at Christ Johnson St, is described as a one-stop-shop including the licensed Australia Post office, convenience, fuel and takeaway that services the Gargett community.
The 2024sq m property also includes a three-bedroom home, shed, full commercial kitchen, as well as landscaped gardens out the back.
“After 15 years the current owners are ready to focus on their grandkids and move on to the next chapters in their lives,” the post read.
“This walk in, walk out business, situated west of Mackay with main road frontage, directly on the route to the very popular Finch Hatton Gorge and Eungella National Park, as well as the soon to be introduced international mountain bike track, you will see a lot of through traffic.
“This would be a great business opportunity for semi-retired couples as well as families.
“For any further information, please send a private message. Please no time wasters, serious inquiries only.”
Another store in the Pioneer Valley has also been on the market for the past three years.
Owners Jamie Mussig and Michaela Pritchard put the Eungella General Store and Cafe on the market since mid 2020, when the pair were forced to shutter after Covid-19 and travel restrictions dealt a final blow to the struggling business.
The property, at Chelmer St, priced at $750,000 and has been on the market for 731 days.
