Mackay’s childcare boom looks set to continue with a proposal for a new centre smack bang in the CBD.
Ezra Family Holdings has submitted an application to the council to build a 595 sqm centre at 46-48 Brisbane Street, just minutes from the MECC and the Coles store on Sydney Street.
The centre would accommodate 96 children with 14 staff on-site.
At present, the site is vacant land.
An artist’s impression of the centre shows a striking white-block structure with a modernist aesthetic.
There are also outdoor play areas.
“The built form (of the centre) complements the existing streetscape and surrounding, existing development,” the application document states.
“The development (building) has been sited as far as possible from neighbouring, incompatible land uses.
“An acoustic assessment … demonstrates the facility will not adversely impact existing surrounding properties.”
The application is now undergoing an internal review.
If approved, the centre would follow a sweep of businesses eager to accommodate the region’s burgeoning child care demands.
In October last year, the council voted unanimously to give Zandabay a $22,500 discount for its proposed Genius Child Care centre booked for South Mackay.
