EXPANSION: Popular Mackay gym to triple in size

IF YOU ever doubt what can be accomplished with sheer determination and passion, take a look at Kay Nyenuh.

The Mackay father and personal trainer has turned his world upside down for the better, putting his heart and soul into a business venture so he could live a life he always dreamed of.

Now, all of that hard work has paid off.

Muscle Garden, the business Kay founded six years ago, will be expanding from a 326 square metre gym to a 1000 square metre gym.

Not only is the space growing, but Muscle Garden will also be adding yoga classes, massage, spin classes, child-minding and a dedicated functional training room to its list of services.

Kay said the journey to get to this point had been tough, but so very worth it.

"I actually opened my first gym on Wood St in 2013, it was only 100 square metres,” he said.

"To think that I will now have a gym 10 times the size is pretty incredible.

"I've wanted to expand for quite some time because I think there are a lot of everyday people in this town that need what we have to offer.”

Although Kay was happy with the current location of his gym on Victoria St, he said the space limited the amount of services he could provide.

The new building on Milton Street, next to Officeworks, will allow for a number of new and improved additions to the business.

"We had been running most of our classes outdoors because we didn't have the room inside, we also didn't have the option to have a dedicated child-minding or yoga space,” he said.

"This expansion means we can offer a comprehensive experience for members. We figure if we want to attract the everyday person, we need to be able to offer the services they need.”

Muscle Garden has built a dedicated membership over the years and Kay said it came down to the culture inside the gym.

He believes training and exercise should be a positive experience.

"I don't want people to feel intimidated or out of place when they come to Muscle Garden,” he said.

"We treat every member like a human being, not a number. My mission is to create a facility where everyday people of all shapes and sizes can feel welcomed, comfortable and supported with their training so that they can live a life full of energy.”

Kay said he hoped to start the relocation process on November 1, with Muscle Garden to open on Milton St as soon as the fit-out of the building was complete.
