John and Patricia started JT & PT Croyden, more commonly known as Croydens, in 1972 with just one vehicle.
“(We’ve worked) hard and we’ve also been fortunate (in) making the most of opportunity,” she said.
“We really want to thank our present and past employees, customers, and the community for their support.
“We will continue to focus on maintaining strong business and customer relationships.”
John Croyden said their focus on trust and relationships began with him drinking at the pub in the ‘70s.
“I had a truck and, no matter how many beers I had, I never forgot an order,” he said.
“One single axle truck turned into two, and then three.
“And then we purchased out first tandem tipper – which was a big thing at the time.”
Pat and John retired in 2007 and handed over Croydens to general manager Stefan Tomerini, who shares their focus on relationships.
“What makes you successful in business is dealing with the same people and that’s why we’ve stayed with the same suppliers,” Mr Tomerini said.
“You get to know your supplier and they know you.
“John and Pat have supported the local community (and) it humbles me to manage the Croyden empire.”
The company has lengthy relationships with BMA Hay Point Services, Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal, and Volvo Group Australia.
Volvo regional commercial manager Iain Allison said they were “proud” of their longstanding relationship with Croydons “since their first purchase of an F86 in 1979”.
“It’s been an honour to work with the team for so long.”
