Exciting news Mackay, one of the town’s most popular burger joints has opened another restaurant north of the Pioneer River.
Burger Urge’s second store at Andergrove Village had its official opening on Monday and the Daily Mercury was on scene for an inside look into the first day of operations.
The counter-serve and sit-down restaurant features pop-art murals and packaging from artist Andy Pineapples and manager Matt Bolus said the menu offered burger lovers new innovations from food culture in the United States.
“We have our brand new menu we launched only a month ago as well which includes the addition of smash patties,” he said.
“A very popular way to do burgers from America.”
The company’s marketing manager Tristan Goodfellow said it was an exciting move for the business.
“A tenancy opened up about six months ago and we jumped at the opportunity,” Mr Goodfellow said.
“We have been building the store since then.”
The fit-out he said, had a “Melbourne vibe”.
“We’re stoked with the fit-out of the store itself … it looks amazing,” Mr Goodfellow said.
Burger Urge has 26 stores across the country and Mr Goodfellow said the Mackay CBD joint, on the corner of Sydney and Gordon Sts, was one of its best performers.
“Mackay is such a large town in itself and of course we were hoping to expand,” he said.
“Once we got the figures back … it was a no-brainer really to expand to the north side.”
Mr Goodfellow said all ingredients used in its menu were either sourced locally or Australian produce.
And while many restaurants were having supply issues as shortages plague the country, Mr Goodfellow said so far Burger Urge had avoided falling short of any ingredients.
He said the company’s head chef “worked day and night” to ensure they had a good supply of produce.
Customers lined up in the first few minutes of operations.
Irene Brown ordered the Boston and Southern fried chicken sliders to go.
“I’m glad there is finally a Burger Urge over this side of town,” she said.
Cameron McAdam enjoyed the Southern fried chicken burger.
“I’m going to head home and enjoy,” he said.
To celebrate the new store opening Mr Goodfellow said one lucky customer could win a year’s supply of free burgers.
All you have to do, he says, is download and sign up to Burger Urge’s loyalty all – Bite Club – and you went into the draw.
It comes after another popular Mackay food outlet opened in the growing suburb – Ma’s Pizza.
Ma’s already has stores at Parkside and Rural View but it opened another store in Andergrove last month and is working on another business concept too – Ma’s Sweet Treats.
