A beachside restaurant has served its last seafood dinner after new documents showed it had gone into voluntary administration.

The tides have turned for a harbour restaurant after administrators were appointed ahead of its closure announcement.

Breakwater Bar and Restaurant is closing at Mackay Harbour after parent company La Ford was placed under administration with Revive Financial on March 27.

Restaurant owner Latasha-Ann Ford is a former manager of the Shamrock Hotel and said in 2017 she had worked in hospitality since her teen years.

She posted on the Breakwater Bar Facebook page on April 6 that she would “always cherish the memories we have share with you.

“We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude for your loyalty and patronage throughout the 6.5 years.

“We deeply apologise for any inconvenience caused by our sudden closure.

“We also want to express our gratitude to our employees, who have worked tirelessly to provide the best service to our customers. We are committed to ensuring that our employees are taken care of during this transition.”

Hundreds of comments expressing customer’s dismay followed the post, with Mackay band Significant Other wishing Breakwater the best and thanking them “for looking after us”.

Doug Hawley said it was “So sad to this occurring, many memories of the good food served at this idyllic location. Good luck in the future”.

Brett Clarke said he “Had some memorable parties here. Best food & atmosphere in Mackay. Going to miss the place”.

Elisha Cody commented “I’ve been looking forward to bringing my kids and partner up to show off this place... Absolutely a beautiful place for so many reasons and also the place Shannon Goode and I met and have been best friends ever since... I’m grateful for the opportunity I had working here and hope that you go on to do more amazing things in the future”.

Opening in 2017, the venue at 9 Southern Breakwater Rd was the former home of Great Northern Sports Club and the Mackay Boat Club.
