An iconic Mackay pub is about to return to its former glory with a major $2 million overhaul.
The Boomerang Hotel has been a landmark at the junction of the Bruce Highway and Peak Downs Highway for 60 years and was the first of three railway hotels built in Mackay.
Australian Venue Company chief operating officer Craig Ellison said Mackay had “definitely earned” an update with the renovation design based on patron feedback.
Closing on Monday and expected to re-open in Autumn next year, details include a new-look bistro with outdoor dining plus a new menu featuring the favourite pub classics as well as new dishes catering to a range of dietary needs.
There will also be a new childrens’ room for families and for the over 18s, there will be screens with live sport in the Sports Bar, a new beer garden, and a larger Gaming Room with dedicated amenities.
The Game Room will remain open during the construction with refurbishment of the hotel’s accommodation to begin on January 10, with some rooms available during throughout the works.
And with a new look comes new jobs with AVC on the hunt for crew members to work in the hotel including front of house and back of house, with paid training available.
Every genuine 2021 applicant will receive a $20 food and drink voucher to spend at any of AVC’s Mackay pubs including the Boomerang, Kooyong Hotel, Taylors Hotel and Metropolitan Hotel.
The Boomerang is the latest of AVC’s Queensland pub collection to get an overhaul with recently reopened venues including the Crown Hotel in Lutwyche, Kings Beach Tavern in Kings Beach and Beenleigh Tavern in Beenleigh.
