Bruce Highway open after three cars collide south of Mackay

A woman was taken to hospital with injuries from a steering wheel after the collision that shut the highway south of Mackay for a short period.

A woman is in hospital after a multi-vehicle crash closed the Bruce Highway south of Mackay for 45 minutes on Sunday.

Emergency services responded to reports two vehicles had collided near the intersection of Christensens Road at Balberra, 15km from Mackay, about 10.35am.

However, on arriving at the scene, crews reported three vehicles were involved in the collision police described as a “rear-end” incident.

One woman was taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a stable condition with injuries from a steering wheel on impact.

One of the vehicles was blocking the middle of the Bruce Highway which came to a standstill for about 45 minutes as emergency services secured the scene.

Two vehicles were off the road, and one lane re-opened to traffic about 10.50am.
