Bruce Highway blocked in B Double rollover at Yalboroo

A truck driver has been seriously injured in a rollover involving a B Double with two trailers that blocked the Bruce Highway in both directions, north of Mackay.

A truck driver has been seriously injured in a rollover that blocked the Bruce Highway in both directions.

The incident, involving a B Double with two trailers, occurred about seven to eight kilometres north of Yalboroo just before 3.27am Sunday.

A 37-year-old man, who was the driver and sole occupant, suffered serious injuries to his head, ribs, arm and legs following the single vehicle crash that blocked the roadway.

Multiple emergency crews including police, paramedics, firefighters and the RACQ CQ Rescue chopper were called to the scene.

The milk truck had been travelling south on the highway on a straight stretch of road, near the turn-off to Cathu State Forest.

Initial investigations indicated the truck had left the roadway, struck a guardrail and rolled coming to stop on its side across on the highway.

The driver was initially trapped in the wreckage and was freed by QFES crews as the rescue chopper landed just before 5am.

However the man was not able to be airlifted by the rescue chopper’s medical team.

The rescue chopper returned to its base.

A Queensland Police spokesman said Mackay’s Forensic Crash Unit had been called to the scene and was investigating.

The highway was closed in both directions just before 5am, but has since reopened. and investigations are still ongoing.

The man was taken to Mackay Base Hospital via ambulance in a serious but stable condition.
