Abbott joins Newman on campaign

QUEENSLAND'S election is a referendum on the carbon tax and Anna Bligh has had "Mark Latham meltdown moments", federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott says.

QUEENSLAND'S election is a referendum on the carbon tax and Premier Anna Bligh has had "Mark Latham meltdown moments", federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott says.

Mr Abbott joined Liberal National Party (LNP) leader Campbell Newman on the state election campaign trail in Ashgrove on Saturday ahead of the March 24 poll.

He said Ms Bligh acted like Labor's former outspoken leader Mark Latham when she launched a scathing attack on Mr Newman in parliament during the week, alleging the conduct of his family's business could land him behind bars.

Ms Bligh has refused to back down from her attack, saying she may have been a "little passionate" on the issue.

Mr Abbott was asked if he agreed with Ms Bligh who on Saturday said the election, based on the latest Newspoll which has the LNP well ahead, was a David (Labor) and Goliath (LNP) battle.
