Some of Queensland’s biggest mining and machinery companies are looking to fill positions at mines across the state and are now offering attractive incentives to bring people in.
From $10,000 bonuses to $150,000+ salaries and all-expenses paid holidays, take a look at some of the best incentives on offer for mining jobs around Queensland.

Mastermyne – free study and employee gifts
Mackay-born coal mining contractor, Mastermyne is on the hunt for both entry level and experienced employees for their mine sites in and around Central Queensland.
Across all available job positions, Mastermyne offers employees 100 per cent reimbursement for approved courses and study, as well as paid study days.
Employees also receive a two-year anniversary watch and other gifts for years of service, as well as other benefits including $350 reimbursement for prescription safety glasses, $250 for private health hospital excess and an 8 per cent Medibank Private Health Insurance discount.
For those looking to begin a career in underground mining, applications are now open for inexperienced miners and operators in Mackay as part of Mastermyne’s Inexperienced Training Program, offering hands-on training and salary packaging.
Applications are also open for Underground Operators, offering up to $59 hourly rates and KPI production bonuses paying up to $36,000 per annum.
Depending on location, Mastermyne also offers a local living allowance of between $35 to $75 per shift worked.
Experienced underground coal mine operators can apply for the role at Mastermyne’s Broadmeadow and Grosvenor developments.

Thiess – $150k+ salary and bonuses
Experienced operators with machinery skills are heavily desired by mining company Thiess, who are offering more than six figures and various benefits for new team members.
Multi-skilled operator, excavator operator and production operator roles are on offer with annual salary of $120,000 to $150,000, plus allowances.
‘Out of market’ payments are on offer for excavator and multi skilled operators, offering up to $776 per fortnight or more than $20,000 per annum.
Multi-skilled operators can also get up to $10,000 a year in retention attendance bonuses.
Those who achieve individual target coal KPIs are also eligible for up to $4000 every six months, with conditions.
BIBO is also provided by Thiess to the Moranbah site, with paid flights also available from Brisbane to Moranbah.
With camp accommodation available and meals provided, potential applicants must have a verified machinery skills list, a drivers licence and a current Standard 11.
Other positions are also available at the company’s Bowen, Blackwater and Mt Isa sites.

Compass Group – competitive salary and flexible rosters
Mining jobs don’t all have to involve heavy weight machinery, with Compass Group offering a range of FIFO and DIDO hospitality and cleaning jobs with competitive salaries.
Most positions have the cost of medicals, training and uniforms covered, with options to also include meals and accommodation.
Seeking employees to fill in positions across various locations including Coppabella, Hail Creek, Kallangur, Rockhampton and Moranbah to name a few, Compass Group is mainly looking for hospitality all-rounders, FIFO chefs and site cleaners.
A recent job listing shows the Compass Group are seeking Hospitality Allrounders for the Blackwater area, seeking DIDO workers with minimum one year experience in the field, offering competitive salaries including $70,000 for a 14/7 kitchen hand and $65,000 for 9/5 Housekeepers.
Compass Group is also looking for people to add into their Brisbane casual pool, offering above award hourly rate plus 25 per cent casual loading,

Primec – $10k sign-on incentive
Specialists in servicing mining and construction industries, Primec are on the lookout for field service diesel fitters and are offering attractive incentives to get the position filled.
Primec are looking for qualified diesel fitters with previous experience working with and servicing large mining equipment to work on their Mackay site, offering a starting rate of $58 per hour in addition to site allowances.
A $10,000 sign on incentive is also being advertised.
The role also comes with a flexible 7/7 roster, a supplied site vehicle, site accommodation, meals and discounts on private health insurance and retail products.
Primec are also looking for trades assistants, labourers, cleaners and storepersons for their sites around Mackay, Rockhampton and Archerfield.

Hitachi Construction Machinery – biannual bonuses and company vehicle
Manufacturing company Hitachi has a range of jobs on offer at various mine sites across Queensland, with a number of benefits.
Looking to hire HV electricians, field service fitters and storepersons across Mackay, Toowoomba and other locations, Hitachi offers its employees the opportunity to earn biannual bonuses, as well as a pay rate described as “rewarding” and “above award”.
Some of the positions also provide a fully maintained company vehicle, camp accommodation and a full PPE uniform, as well as 11 per cent super and discounted Medibank insurance.
Once employed, Hitachi workers can also benefit from an employee referral bonus, earning $2000 for every person they successfully refer.

Mader Group – $100k entry level role
Based at open cut mine-sites from Blackwater to Toowoomba, Mader currently has roles available for both skilled workers and those starting out in the mining industry.
Mader is expanding their award-winning ‘Trade Upgrade Program’ from Western Australia into Queensland this year, offering new-starters a salary of $100k while they learn to develop their skills to become a qualified heavy duty diesel mechanic.
The program, which begins in January 2024, offers 10 paid weeks at Brisbane TAFE before employees are transferred to a mine for 15 months of on-site learning.
People who have already completed their Cert III or Trade Cert in Light Vehicle Mechanic subjects are eligible for the program.
Mader is also offering an attractive pay rate of $80 per hour for High Voltage Electricians and HD Mechanics, jobs that include a provided company ute, 11 per cent super and flexible rostering with FIFO and DIDO options available.
Employees can also benefit from all-expenses-paid employee trips with Mader’s travel adventure partner, Three Gears, with locations including Moreton Island and Airlie Beach.
