It takes guts at five years old to dance before more than 1000 gazing faces but not one of Fitzgerald’s preppies ran off the stage.
The four prep classes at Fitzgerald State School were the opening acts at what has become an annual sold-out Spectacular, really getting into the groove when the tunes turned into techno beats despite the odd student looking to their peers for moral support and some dance direction.
Almost 700 students from the preppies right through to the Year 6s got a chance to dazzle over the two-day Spectacular with plenty of funny moments like Year 3 students rocking out with attitude to some classic AC/DC.
Year 6 student Scarlett Watkins said it was “quite a big deal” to be part of something so big at their age.
“It’s really fun and it’s a once in a lifetime experience,” fellow student Tayt Rowe added.
Also in Year 6, Evie English, who scored the leading role as Queen Ethereal, said it was nerve-racking to go on stage but also sad the experience would soon end.
Students spent months preparing for Spectacular including after-school rehearsals, with parents and community members also pitching in with props and costumes.
Principal Tracey Adams said it was an honour to put on the event, and thanked the community for its support.
“We were acknowledged as a school that is a school of excellence in the arts and we should embrace this as there are few schools across Queensland that boasts the scale and achievement across the breadth of the arts,” Mrs Adams said.
“(The Spectacular) doesn’t just happen, it takes a village of support.”
