Love is in the air as couples get married at Big Red Bash

Love is in the air at Outback Queensland’s Big Red Bash with two couples tying the knot on Wednesday, with another pair set to say ‘I do’ before the end of the week.

One of the couples - Christopher Payton and Kaylah Gaitskell - get married at the Big Red Bash at Birdsville.

Love is in the air at Outback Queensland’s Big Red Bash with two couples tying the knot on Wednesday, with another pair set to say ‘I do’ before the end of the week.

Kaylah Gaitskell and Christopher Payton have been together for six years, with Mr Payton moving from Queensland to Western Australia so they could be together.

Celebrant Janice Bradley, who is a regular attendee of the Birdsville event, helped the together organise their wedding in just over a month.

Mr Payton dressed in a country-style, blue-patterned shirt for the ceremony, while his bride donned a glamorous white dress.

“She puts up with me pretty well, I can’t ask for anything else really,” Mr Payton said when asked how he knew his now-wife was the one.

The couple had a pretty small guest list, if you don’t count the hundreds of onlookers cheering as they said their vows.

Otherwise it was just their parents, Mr Payton’s daughter and his sister in attendance.

The second Big Red wedding was that of Rachel Simpson and Mark Turley.

Together for more than 20 years, they thought: “Why not?”, with a shared love of music festivals making the Big Red Bash an ideal spot for their nuptials.

Mrs Simpson said two of their daughters attended the wedding as well as their “camp neighbours.”

“They helped us out with our fire last night because the wood was damp, so we thought let’s just invite them to our wedding,” she said.

Celebrant Greg Peters said he had officiated other ceremonies at previous festivals, and co-ordinated with the couple on social media as soon as tickets for the festival were available.

Celebratory cheers were heard throughout the dunes as the festival community congratulated the couple.

A third wedding is set to happen on top of the sand dunes on Thursday afternoon.

The trip was meant to take roughly 3000 km originally.

“We travelled 5150 km to get married,” he said.
