A group of angry locals have interrupted a meeting of Brisbane City councillors over development in Kangaroo Point before storming out of City Hall.
Tensions from the community have hit new highs over the suitability of apartment developments on the peninsula.
The most contentious development, 108 Lambert Street, is a three-tower, 15 storey project which will require the relocation of several pre-1911 heritage homes.
After Gabba ward councillor Jonathan Sri asked about the project during Question Time, frustrated residents began yelling from the public gallery.
“We’re desperate and we’re driven to this,” one protester yelled.
“Ditch the plan!” another yelled, referring to the Kangaroo Point Neighbourhood Plan which would allow the proposal to go ahead.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner however answered Cr Sri’s question, saying it was still being assessed by BCC’s Town Planning Department.
“We will continue to invest heavily in providing better access (to Kangaroo Point),” Cr Schrinner said.
“It is not our proposal, this is a proposal made by an application.”
“There should be no assumption that we support this proposal.”
After Cr Schrinner had finished speaking, protesters began chanting “people not profit,” before storming out.
