The Animal Welfare League Queensland has announced the retirement of Denise Bradley who has served the state’s most vulnerable animals for 30 years.

In a statement on Tuesday the AWLQ said Ms Bradley had been pivotal in their growth and transformed the organisation while maintaining a commitment to organisations grassroots approach.

“Denise‘s tireless commitment and unwavering passion have left an indelible impact on our organisation and on the communities we serve,” the statement said.

“While Denise’s retirement is a significant milestone, her vision, principles, and commitment will continue to guide AWLQ’s future endeavours.”

In 1996 Ms Richards became the President of the Board three years after she initiated a branch in Jimboomba which the AWLQ said marked a new dawn and an exciting era leading to her being offered the role of CEO in 2010.

“Denise is the daughter of our Founding President, Neil Andersen, which creates an emotional lineage and connection to our organisation,” said the AWLQ.

“Her work ethic and passion have always mirrored the dedication and foresight of her father, and she has been integral in upholding his vision for AWLQ.”

Her tenure saw the conception and execution of numerous initiatives, including community vet clinics, the Getting to Zero campaign to achieve zero euthanasia of healthy and treatable cats and dogs, Golden Hearts Seniors’ Support Program and the National Desexing Network.

“These programs have provided quality care to countless animals, keeping pets with their families and making a lifesaving difference in communities across Queensland and beyond.”

The AWLQ said Ms Bradley will serve as CEO until a replacement is found and a handover period is completed.

“We anticipate that the transition will be completed before the end of September 2023. However, the exact timing will depend on the process of sourcing, onboarding, and stewarding the incoming Chief Executive Officer,” they said.

“Rest assured, business operations will continue as usual during this period.”

Ms Bradley said that retirement came with mixed emotions as she reflected on her work and the legacy of her father.

“My work ethic and passion have always mirrored the dedication and foresight of my father, and this has been integral in upholding his vision for Animal Welfare League Queensland,” she said.

“I know our amazing team will continue to achieve wonderful outcomes for our beloved animals and the community.”

She also wanted to extend thanks to the dedicated community of supporters who enabled the positive impact the AWLQ has had on countless animals.

“Without your kindness, Animal Welfare League Queensland could not fulfil its mission of creating a brighter future for animals in need,” she said.

“I extend my personal gratitude to everyone who has offered help, donated funds, or provided a home for one of our animals. We simply could not exist without you.”
