Cheeky argument between cop and man just trying to have a "coffee and a durry"

A MAN has been charged with public nuisance after an expletive-laden argument with a cop. The stoush was captured on film and shared more than 150,000 times.

Jayden Shields, 23, claims he was just trying “to have a cigarette and a coffee” when the argument with the policeman erupted.

Mr Shields, from Waterford, says he was sitting on his balcony when the officer swore at him from across the road.

The officer denies this.

In the film, Detective Senior Constable Andrew McCaul, from Logan Criminal Investigation Branch, repeatedly asks the man to stop swearing and to come downstairs to talk to him.

Mr Shields insists the officer spoke to him first, from across the road where police were taking a person into custody, and then swore at him first.

Snr Constable McCaul says he yelled across the road to Mr Shields to tell him not to text the neighbour, as the neighbour was “in custody.”

But Mr Shields insists he doesn’t know the person taken into custody and wasn’t sending him a text.

“Do I know him? Then don’t f--king yell at me then. I don’t know him,” he says. “I’ve been here for three f---ing days. Stop being f---ing lippy. I’m minding my own business about to have a cigarette and a coffee and you start yelling shit out to me.”

Throughout the video, Snr Constable McCaul repeats that there was “no reason to swear in public.”

Mr Shields, who says he has just moved from Springwood, calls the officer a number of names, including d---head and a “flog” as he debates why he was in trouble.

“You’re swearing in public,” Snr Constable McCaul says in the video.

“Stop swearing. Your neighbours can hear you.”

The officer instructs the man to open the door so he could arrest Mr Shields for being a public nuisance.

“Go get a warrant and f---ing come and get me,” Mr Shields replies.

“F---ing say I know him (neighbour). “Who the f--- do you think you are?”

In another response to the policeman’s request to let him in, Mr Shield’s asks the officer if he wanted to come in for a cup of tea.

“No, I want to arrest you. It came to this because you’ve got a really bad attitude and started swearing,” Snr Constable McCaul replies.

When Mr Shields refuses to come downstairs, Snr Constable McCaul is seen in the video with a sledgehammer after telling the man he would break his door down.

Mr Shields then records himself opening the door and talking to the officer and others that have since arrived.

When a person Mr Shields says is his housemate arrives home, he is heard on the video telling them he’s being fined because the officer started yelling at him.

“I’m copping a fine because knobhead over here started yelling at me,” he is heard saying.

“And I told him to get f-ed because I was having a coffee and a durry and he starts yelling at me.”

The three videos, recorded on a phone and uploaded to Mr Shield’s Facebook page on August 29 along with the comment “just got my phone back,” have already been shared more than 150,000 times with hundreds of comments supporting Mr Shield’s reaction.

Some have even dubbed the exchange between the two as “Super Troopers 3” in reference to a comedy movie series involving police officers.

Others have said was digging himself in further or questioned his sometimes conflicting answers.

A QPS spokeswoman said the officers were originally on Willow Rise Drive about 4.30pm on August 27 to arrest a man on an unrelated matter.

Mr Shields, who also had his phone seized, was issued with a notice to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on one count each of public nuisance and obstructing police.
