More than 7000 residents confined to their homes have been praised for their efforts in keeping Queenslanders safe while those in lockdown hope for some reprieve come Sunday.

Kylie Smith was among the first to enter quarantine as part of the recent outbreak when she realised her daughter Joey Luff attended Indooroopilly State High School with the 17-year-old student who tested positive to Covid-19 on July 29.

“I’m a single mum and we don’t have any close friends or family in the 10km radius so it’s been really tricky,” Ms Smith said.

“But it’s our duty to stay at home and there are a lot more vulnerable people in the community who Covid-19 poses a grave danger for.

“To everyone else staying home, well done.”

Deputy Premier Steven Miles echoed that sentiment at Thursday’s press conference, thanking those in quarantine.

“They are our first line of defence against this outbreak,” Mr Miles said.

“They are doing a service to all Queenslanders.”

Mr Miles said most Brisbane residents would now know of someone who was subject to a quarantine direction.

“And to everyone in the southeast, I’d say if you do know someone who’s subject to these directions, give them a call and see if they need anything,” he said.

“We all want to take care of you because you are taking care of us.”

Ms Smith said she had felt that kindness from the community with a stranger dropping off her groceries and staff member at a Kenmore pharmacy delivering items after hours.

Anthony Gough is one of the humble heroes who has been looking out for his Brisbane neighbours.

The dad-of-three was unable to do any gardening or projects in lockdown due to an injury so he looked to the chores in the community he was capable of.

“I saw people posting online that they wouldn’t be able to get their groceries for a week while in quarantine and I realised I could help,” Mr Gough said.

“I think it’s something everyone should do.”
