A Brisbane family is experiencing a “living nightmare” in the intensive care unit after their boy came off his mountain bike in a popular park.

Jake Morrison, 12, was placed in an induced coma after coming off his mountain bike near Balmoral Skate Park on Sunday.

The Balmoral boy, who is an avid soccer player, was riding his bike with friends when the “freak accident” occurred.

“Our whole world has just been turned upside down,” his dad Craig Morrison told The Courier-Mail.

Following the accident at the popular park, Jake’s friends jumped into action- running down the street to his house to get immediate help.

Jake was taken to Mater Children’s Private Brisbane where he was placed in a coma.

Mr Morrison on Wednesday said Jake was out of his coma but still unable to talk, with little movement down his right side.

He is being fed through a tube in his nose in the intensive care unit, but his family was hopeful he would be moved to a ward shortly.

“I just want him to be able to talk again so he can tell me how he feels,” Mr Morrison said.

Jake’s dad, mum and sister are at his bedside with family considering flying in from overseas to offer support.

Family friend Kelly Cabrera has created a Go Fund Me page to ease the financial burden of time off work, and potential medical expenses.

Ms Cabrera said she was impressed by the support her page had already received, with many people from their tight-knit soccer community, the Southside Eagles, donating.

“Everyone in the community has been helping and supporting Jake and people are passing it onto others who don’t even know jake and are donating money,” Ms Cabrera said.

“His soccer club has been supportive, his school has been supportive and the whole community is showing kindness to this family.

“When people are in need- especially in these hard times with a lot of unknowns.

“They’re already going through enough as it is and we don’t want them going through any stress from financial pressure.”

Ms Cabrera, who volunteers with the Southside Eagles alongside Mr Morrison, said Jake was well-known and loved in the community.

More than $3,000 has so far been raised for the family, with 90 per cent of donations coming from soccer club friends.

Mr Morrison said they felt really lucky that Jake had so many good friends who were there to help.
