A DRAG racing mum and her muscle-car racing husband are in financial hot water over unpaid debts.

Kirsten Tucker and husband John Cannuli, from Carbrook, a suburb of Logan City, have been served with a creditor’s petition for $76,053 by last-resort lender Circuit Finance.

According to the petition, which was filed in the Federal Circuit Court, the pair have failed to come up with the cash despite the Magistrates Court ordering they pay the money in November last year.

The petrol-head pair were served with a bankruptcy notice on February 16, giving them a month to pay, court documents claim.

The case was in court last Wednesday where Registrar Scott Tredwell adjourned the case until September 7.

The court was told that process servers have had trouble tracking down the couple, so they have been authorised to leave court documents taped to their front gate.

Cannuli is a former drag racer and Tucker, 32, made her racing debut in an Australian National Drag Racing Association event at Willowbank Raceway near Ipswich in 2012.

She raced the following year in a Holden Monaro and found sponsorship from a US tool company.

Her brother Shane, from the Gold Coast, races on the US drag-racing circuit and is competing in the nationals in Indianapolis next week.

Circuit Finance is a non-bank lender which lends to businesses and offers second mortgages, often making loans which are considered too risky for the big banks.

It has been in liquidation since 2008, and its liquidators are still trying to clawback debts from borrowers who defaulted on loans.
