The daughter of late mining magnate Ken Talbot is set for a $10m-plus windfall on the sale of two massive inner-city waterfront properties in Brisbane.
Courtney Talbot and one of her companies have put the neighbouring homes in blue-chip Bulimba on the market, with top offers to be submitted by March 2.
It follows an ugly family feud over her father’s fortune which played out in the Supreme Court last year.
Worth more than a billion dollars, Ken Talbot was one of Queensland’s richest men before he died in a light plane crash in Congo in 2010.
Ms Talbot, 37, is one two children from his first marriage, the other being race car driver Liam Talbot, 39.
Ms Talbot said she had decided to put the Bulimba properties on the market because “now feels like the right time to sell and look at other investments”.
“I would love to see two families buy the properties and enjoy all the area has to offer, but there is understandably developer interest right along the river,” she said.
The homes, at 35 and 39 McConnell St, occupy 2123 sqm of prime land stretching 40m along the Brisbane River and are described by the agents as “a truly rare offering in one of Brisbane’s most prestigious enclaves”.
No. 35, which Ms Talbot bought for $3.8m in 2016, is now valued by CoreLogic as being worth up to $6.38m.
The two-level, five-bedroom home features a glass-encased pool with diving boards and full bathroom, four-car garage, private jetty and pontoon with jet ski slip.
No. 39, owned by Ms Talbot’s company Artemis Investments, is valued at up to $4.92m, according to CoreLogic. The four-bedroom home, with timber floors and “character brick facade”, sits on a sprawling 1056sq m block.
The homes, which are being marketed by top real estate agent Sarah Hackett, are being sold together or separately through Place Bulimba.
Ken Talbot also had two other children, Claudia, 19, and Alexandra, 22, with his second wife, Amanda.
The family was last year embroiled in a bitter legal stoush over Ken Talbot’s dying wish that a third of his fortune be dedicated to a charity through a single family-run foundation.
A Supreme Court judge ordered that two foundations be set up using proceeds from the estate because the four children and Amanda “would not be able to work together as a single group”.
