A large bushfire burning for hours on the Sunshine Coast forced police to close the Sunshine Coast Motorway for a number of hours on Monday night.
Emergency services were called to the Mooloolah River National Park near Sippy Downs just before 3pm where a large bushfire was under way.
Up to 15 fire crews arrived on scene, however at 7pm police shut down the Sunshine Coast Motorway between Dickson Rd and Kawana Rd.
It was opened again at 10.45pm
There were approximately 240 hectares burning in the area as firefighters worked for more than six hours.
A QFES spokesperson said backburning was underway to control the edge near the Sunshine Coast motorway.
Firefighters were also working to secure the eastern edge while the edge near Claymore Rd has already been secured.
No property or homes were under threat.
Motorists were told to avoid the area and take care as visibility on the roads has been impacted.
Three smoke warnings were issued by Queensland Fire and Emergency over the course of its five hour burn.
