A kitten dumped in a bin of a Logan residence is still recovering after suffering severe trauma from a shocking ordeal last week.
The ginger kitten, Charlie, was found in a wheelie bin outside a Park Ridge home, wrapped in duct tape and firecrackers about 9.30pm on July 27.
The Queensland RSPCA was called and discovered duct tape around his neck, legs and torso.
He was taken to RSPCA’s Wacol veterinary hospital, where veterinarian staff carefully removed the tape from the injured kitten.
As they were removing the tape, staff were startled to found firecrackers and burns to Charlie’s neck and mouth.
A few days later, on July 29, RSPCA Inspectors alongside QPS officers executed a warrant on a man in his early 20s, also entering a Crestmead address on a search warrant.
RSPCA seized multiple items including a piece of used duct tape and a mobile device.
Cat fur matching the ginger kitten was found stuck to the used duct tape, while the mobile held vision of a person lighting firecrackers taped to the kitten.
They also found a large number of fireworks and crackers, drugs and an antique firearm.
Queensland RSPCA Chief Inspector Daniel Young said he is at a “loss for words”.
“How anyone could treat an animal like this and then discard it like rubbish is appalling,” he said.
“This level of offending shows a complete lack of empathy and a very disturbing level of cruelty.”
No animals were located at the Crestmead property.
Investigations are continuing.
RSPCA is urging anyone, with further information which may help investigations, to contact them on 1300ANIMAL.
